What are the requirements for selecting signal connectors?

2023-11-06

Relatively speaking, signal connectors are connectors with relatively small transmission current (generally no more than 15A) and small connector size (less than 10mm). They are very common in daily life, such as mobile phones, computers, TVs, etc., in industrial production. It is widely used in PLC, control cabinet, PCB printed circuit board, etc.

As an electronic component that conducts and transmits power signals, the following factors must be considered in order to ensure the normal operation of the product:

1. The rated load range of the component itself, such as the current and voltage during operation, as well as the number or length of short-term overloads,

2. The size of the component, such as for mobile phones, notebooks or industrial control cabinets, should consider the available space and select the appropriate signal connector based on the rated load.

3. The material of the connector itself. Generally, the shell is made of insulating materials, such as nylon, polyester, etc. Most of them have flame retardant functions; the terminal is the carrier for conductive transmission of signals, which requires stable connection, high conductivity, and certain environmental resistance. With varying performance, most of them are copper. Depending on the use environment, you can also choose gold, silver or tin plating to ensure the stability and reliability of signal transmission.

4. Environmental factors when the signal connector is working, such as high temperature, vibration, humidity, dust, etc. For example, if the temperature is too high, when it reaches a certain node, the signal transmission function of the connector terminal will drop sharply, and the component itself may also burn out, causing the entire system to malfunction. A vibrating environment can easily cause the terminal contacts to disengage, resulting in loose contact, causing problems; moisture, dust, etc. can also cause the connector contacts to have reduced transmission performance or even fail to conduct signals.

When choosing a signal connector, you should consider it in conjunction with your own design!
